missing the mark

So I had a dress rehersal at dance today because I'm headed off to the Wester Canadian Irish Dance Chanpionships in Edmonton (boo) next weekend and I decided I should show off my baby blue shirt a little more. I paired it with my sparkley white tie, my Urban Outfitters skinny jeans, and my Steve Madden dress shoes. I really like the pop that the white back ground and the tie add to the outfit when combined. I love this shirt because I'm all for colour in an outfit and this shirt certainly adds that!

Anyhow, I hope you enjoy the look and once again, if you haven't listened to the new Coldplay album, definitiely get on that!

hurts like heaven

FINALLY!!! New Coldplay came out on Monday and it has been on repeat on my iPod ever since! Definitely check it out if you get the chance! Anyways, it was soo cold on Wednesday when I went down to the reservoir with my friend so we didn't get very many shot in before we headed back to the car.
Fir this look, I paired my cream cardigan with my grey speckled T and my brown H&M scarf. For a pit of extra flair (such a gay word I know :P) I took one of my Mom's necklaces because ever since she started selling lia sophia jewelery, there has been a large influx of accessories. I hope you like my look and feel free to comment :)

sneak peak: playing with shadows

So my friend Nathalie and I decided to have some fun in her basement (get your mind out of the gutter now...) with a small light and otherwise total darkness. Now, it will take me a while to edit them all, and quite frankly I'm too lazy to right away. But here is a little preview of two that I got to finishing right away. Hope you like them!

scarecrow dreams

Went to H&M the other day looking for pants, and instead I walked away with this amazingly simple, speckled sweater! I love creating cozy looks seeing as its getting chillier outside everyday. Paired with my black skinnies that match anything, and my brown Steve Madden boots, it creates a simple stylish look. Never underestimate the power of simplicity!
Okay, so Coldplay's new album comes out in 2 days and 22 hours and I've been listening to every new song they've streamed on iTunes and its fantastic! Here is one of their new ones that they performed live a while back.

sweeter than heaven, hotter than hell

So my message today is about thrifting and being resourceful! My old washing machine used to deposit random blue oil stains on certain articles of clothing, so I turned my yellow v-neck into a scarf so the stain wasn't as noticeable. But I decided to make it a backless shirt for this look. I paired it with my vintage army green shirt from Divine on 17th (looks so scary from the outside, but its a diamond in the rough). Thrifting and vintage clothes are fantastic for getting unique articles that are usually one-of-a-kind, and they're great for people on a tight budget.

Value Village is a great place to go, as well as some places along 17th downtown are great places to look, just make sure to wash before wearing; you never know who was the last person to wear it.

Ohh and, just like I'm obsessed with Foster the People, I'm also more recently obsessed with Florence + The Machine! I know its from 2009, but it's still fantastic! Have a listen:

some dreaming state

So, my Grandma knows how I love scarves and so she decided to give me one of her's that she wasn't too fond of anymore. I just love the colour of it and how it looks green in some light but grey in others. However, it is a hard colour to pair with other colours, and in my rush to get a new look, I thought tan and black were my best options without going through everything in my closet. Then I paired it with my dark Levi's skinnies and my Steve Madden boots, and headed out for what looks like the last nice day for a while here in Calgary. I hope everyone likes it :)

so much sacred in the month of june

Just wanted to show off these shots from my birthday back in June. This was one of my earlier shoots before I bought my Nikon, and looking back, I don't think it turned out half bad (to say the least). The pictures from my earlier post "lace." are from this shoot as well. Just a side note, the only ones that have been editted in any way are the first 2 at the top. The rest are unaltered. I hope you enjoy them! Feel free to comment even if you don't have a Google account

it's always darkest before the dawn

So my last one definitely got deleted from lookbook but whatever, here's my new one! I realize my last two looks have been very simple, but I haven't exactly been in the most creative mood lately and I hope you can all forgive me ;)
Anyways, I brought my new boots into this one because I'm madly in love with them. As well, I have been trying really hard to incorporate my grey/rainbow tank into an outfit, and quite frankly, I really like it in this look. And of course, black jeans go with everything, so I decided it would be appropriate for this one.
Hope you like it :)

everyday that you want to waste, you can

My current obsession is Foster the People and thats where the title comes from. Definitely have a listen if you can, the song is unbelievable.
Well anyways, I wanted to show off the power of simplicity with this look. I simply used my striped shirt and black skinnies from Urban O, and my navy scarf from H&M to add a little bit more dimesnion. I also wanted to show off my new hair! Let me know what you think :)

heavier things

So I know this is an older look of mine but I love it! I got my graphic T and scarf at H&M (my second home) and I kept the lightness of it by pairing it with my light wash Levis. I thought my Jack and Jones jacket would add a big of greaser chic and contrast to my outfit. If I had had my Steve Madden shoes I would most definitely have added them to this look for a bit of casual class. I particularly like my T because of all the different colours and dynamics it adds.
Short but sweet :) hope this is helpful!

better late than never

So I realise that its fall now, and fall colours are very much in right now. However, I really wanted to give some advice for next spring and summer and exhibit my photos of my cousin and her friend. Floral is huge for spring and summer! Floral anything: rompers, skirts, dresses, tops, shoes...your get the picture. Floral incorporates a lovely pattern, and is usually brightly coloured. Both of these are fantastic for the warmer seasons. Pair a nice floral top with jeans or leggings, or pair a dress or romper with some gladiator sandals and you're all set!

One more thing: rompers. Rompers were huge this past spring/summer season and I sure hope they come back in for 2012. Rompers are fantastic because they tone down the element of sluttyness (is that a word?) that  short skirts/dresses give off, but still allow for lots of leg. As well, they establish continuity within an outfit, without looking like you staired into your closet for an hour to try and match the same coloured top to the same coloured pants.

Well I hope this is helpful for everyone and not completely outdated by the time spring rolls around! ;)

fall pallet

Fall colours. Like in my last look, a fall pallet is fantastic for the season. Golds, browns, blacks, dark greens and reds are all very in right now. Nathalie has paired my brown H&M circle scarf with her gold sequence top and a great pair of leggings. When they're put all together they create a great contrast of light and dark, but are still fairly muted in tone. Her soft pink lips help contrast the brownness of this outfit, without being gaudy. As well, her brown lace up oxford style shoes match wonderfully and help retain the softness and warmth of the outfit. Overall, its a perfect look for a warm indian summer afternoon!

happy october (combat boots)

Okay, so I know I said no hoodies. But a nice textured one with a great pair of combat boots (Steve Madden) and an accessory, in this case an H&M leopard print scarf, its more than acceptable. This is because my wonderful friend/model Holly actually put effort into making the hoodie work. As well, my navy blazer also adds a great layering effect to the outfit.

Combat boots. I suppose I should talk about them because many love the look of combat boots, but don't know how to pull them off. Number one rule: skinny jeans/leggings/anything skin tight only. If you decide to shove a bootcut or, heaven forbid, flare jean into combat boots, it makes your theighs look massive. And putting your jeans over top of the boots defeats the whole purpose of the boots. After you get your bottoms all sorted out, the top is should just come naturally. Almost anything will work, it just depends on whatever your personal style is.

For guys combat boots are absolutely amazing for winter and the same rule applies: tuck your skinny jeans or trousers in! Pair it with a button up shirt, cardigan, or almost anything else and you've got a great fall/winter outfit.
